Making Eggshell Water For Plants

Eggshells are great for plants, making them an excellent addition to compost and soil. However, if you don’t live somewhere you can easily compost, or don’t have access to a large garden space, you can still give your houseplants and potted veggies the benefit of eggshells’ nutrients.

Making eggshell water is incredibly simple. First, you need some eggshells! Take this opportunity to make yourself an omlette or some delicious cookies, and set your shells aside.

Next, rinse out your shells. Use your fingertips and warm water to rub all the membrane and stickiness out of the inside of the shells, and then set on a paper towel or in a mug to dry off a bit.

Boil some water. While your water is boiling, crush up your eggshells inside the paper towel. You don’t need to make them super fine, but try and get some small pieces.

Then, soak your eggshell pieces in boiling water in a heat-safe mug or bowl. Once it has completely cooled, strain out the pieces and pour your water either directly into your plants or into a jar for storage.

Use your eggshell water on your plants once a week or less, to give them a little boost. They’ll thank you!
